An  American  gets  into  a  cab  and  gives  directions  to the  driver.

A:  Ueno  Kōen  o-negai  shimasu. 

Ueno  Park,  please.

J :  E?  Doko  desu  ka? 

Huh?  Where  was  that?

A:  Ueno  Kōen  o-negai  shimasu. 

Ueno  Park,  please.

J :  Ueno  Kōen  desu  ne? 

That  was  Ueno  Park,  wasn't it?

A:  Hai . 

Yes.


 

Dialogue 2: 

 

An  American  shows  the  cabdriver  a  picture  of  his destination  on  a  postcard.

A:  Koko  o-negai  shimasu.

This  place,  please.

J:  E?  Koko  desu  ka?  Dame desu.

Huh?  This  place?  No!

The  American  then  shows  the  postcard  to  another  cabdriver.

A:  Koko  o-negai  shimasu.

This  place,  please.

J:  Mēji  Jingū  desu  ne? 

That's  the  Meiji  Shrine,  isn't  it?

A:  Hai. 

Yes.

A :  Koko  de  ī desu.

This  is  okay.

 


 

Dialogue 3: 

An  American  teIls  the  cabdriver  her  destination.

A:  Sannō  Hoteru  o-negai shimasu.

The  Sanno  Hotel,  please.

J:  E?  Nan  desu  ka?

Huh?  What  was  that?

A:  Sannō  Hoteru.

The  Sanno  Hotel.

J:  E?  Sannō  Hoteru?

Huh?  The  Sanno  Hotel?

Dame,  dame.

No!  No!

The  American  asks  another  cabdriver.

 

A:  Sannō  Hoteru  o-negai shimasu.

The  Sanno  HoteI,  PIease.

J:  E?  Doko  desu  ka?

Huh?  Where  was  that?

A:  Sannō  Hoteru  desu.

The  Sanno  Hotel.

A:  Koko  desu.

An  American  points  to  a  picture  of  his  destination.

A:  Koko  o-negai  shimasu.

J:  E?  Doko  desu  ka?  Kyūjō desu  ne?

Huh?  Where's  that?  That's the  Imperial  Palace,  isn't  it?

A:  Hai.

An  American  points  to  her  destination  on  a  map.

A:  Koko  o-negai  shimasu

This  place,  please.

J:  E?  Nan  desu  ka? 

Huh?  What's  that?

The  cabdriver  looks  at  the  map.

 

J:  Koko  desu  ka?  Dame,  dame. 

This  place?  No!  No!

The  American  shows  the  map  to  another  cabdriver.

A:  Koko  o-negai  shimasu. 

This  place,  please.

J:  E?  Nan  desu  ka? 

Huh?  What's  that?

A:  Koko  desu. 

This  is  the  place.

J  :  Hai. 

Yes,  ma'am.

 


Dialogue 6: 

An  American  tells  the  cabdriver  his  destination.

A:  Kōraku-en  Sutajiamu  o-negai  shimasu.

Paradise  Park  Stadium,  please.

J:  E?  Nan  desu  ka?

Huh?  What  was  that?

A:  Kōraku-en  Sutajiamu.

Paradise  Park  Stadium.

J:  Kōraku-en  Sutajiamu  desu ne?

That  was  Paradise  Park  Stadium, wasn't  it?

A:  Hai.

The  Kokusai  Theater,  please.

J:  E?  Nan  desu  ka?

Huh?  What  was  that?

A:  Kokusai  Gekijō

The  American  approaches  another  cabdriver.

 

A:  Kokusai  Gekijō  o-negai shimasu.
